  • Masking Tape

  • Spacer (2x either 20c, 50c or $2 coin, we recommend the $2 coin)
  • Some spare screws ~24mm long (for temporary holding)

Replacing Existing Doors, Drawers & Panels

ruler icon First of all, place some masking tape on all the doors and panel that you need to replace and label them clearly.

ruler icon Next take a photo or draw a picture/map of the doors and panels.

ruler icon Now measure the Height (or Length) of the doors in millimetre (if using another measurement system please specify as we work in millimetres as a standard)

ruler icon Now measure the width of the door/panel, and record the measurement on a piece of paper.

ruler icon Once you have measured, check the measurements again remembering the old cabinet maker saying “Measure twice, cut once!”

(A tip from the professionals, if you have dodgy tape measure or just want to check you measured correctly, start measuring from the 100mm mark BUT REMEMBER to take 100mm from the final measurement to get the correct size)

ruler icon Now if you will need us to bore the hole/s for hinges we need to know where to place those holes.

ruler icon Measure from the top down to the centre of the hinge holes.

ruler icon With each hinge remember to be consistent and give the measurement from the top of the door to the centre of the hinge.

ruler icon Also note which side the hinge is on of the back of the door.

ruler icon  Corner Doors. Now if you have old corner doors you a replace, you need to consider some things.

ruler icon  The original door thickness, a lot of older doors were made with 16mm board, HOWEVER our products are made with 18mm Moisture Resistant, E0 (low volatiles), Australian MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard). This means that for corner doors that originally were 16mm that sit next to each other you will need to minus 2mm off the width of each new door so they will open correctly, see diagram.

ruler icon The other thing to consider with corner doors is whether they should have edging on the edge in the corner. Our recommendation is to make them with no edging on those corner edges to minimise the visible gap.

Now you have all the required measurements you can either come in and see us (recommended), or e-mail us the measurements, preferably on our order form, otherwise in a very clear format.

We will then answer your questions, give you a quote and assist you to fill out our order form if needed.

If you have proceeded to order your new doors, drawers and panels, we will manufacture them and once the doors and panels are manufactured, cleaned and wrapped for collection, we will call you to collect or deliver to you (if you opted to pay for delivery*).

*Deliveries cannot be upstairs and there must be a clear, safe path for the delivery to be placed.

Install them yourself

Doors

ruler icon  To install the doors, take the old doors off the hinges but leave the hinges on the cabinetry carcasses/box.

ruler icon  Then having the hinges on a 45 degree angle line up the new door and then push the hinges into the hinge holes.

ruler icon  If your hinges has screw to secure them you will at this point drill the pilot holes for the screws BUT place a marker on the drill bit so you do not drill further than 5mm down.

ruler icon  Then screw in the screws.

Drawers

To install metal drawers please see the manufacturer’s instructions.

To install the drawers with traditional timber/chipboard/mdf carcasses;

ruler icon  First of all, mark out and drill out the holes for the handles using the correct drill bit to match the handle screws (usually about a 4mm bit), once again MEASURE TWICE, DRILL ONCE”.

ruler icon  Now take off all the old drawers, except the bottom drawer on each drawer bank, leave these on. Then place the spacers on the top of this bottom drawer on either side.

ruler icon  Next, place the correct drawer on the spacers and screw these temporarily on the drawer carcass with the ~24mm long screw to hole them in place while you screw in the fixing screws from behind.

ruler icon  Once the fixing screws are in, remove the two temporary screws from the handle holes and bore the hole through the drawer carcass to allow the handle to be affixed with the screws it came with.

ruler icon  Repeat, this for all the drawers and then do the bottom drawers.

Now you have renovated your cabinetry, enjoy the freshed look and have peace of mind that your doors, drawers and panel should well and truely outlast the seven years warranty with a little love and care.

And if you have done it yourself why not take before and after photos and share them with us! We love to see people enjoying our products.
